S.O.A.R. has just received a grant from the Nova Scotia Department of Health “Consumer Led Initiatives” programme to redesign the peer counselling training program and rewrite the manual. We will be working on this for several months and we look forward to any who have taken the training to give us input, ideas, and inspiration towards this project.

Peer Counselling Training for
Adult Survivors Of Childhood Sexual Abuse:
Survivors of Abuse Recovering (S.O.A.R.)

S.O.A.R. is a community-based, volunteer, charitable organization that offers peer counselling and group support services to adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and provides public education to the community. S.O.A.R. is currently active in Hants, Kings and Annapolis counties. We welcome interest from other regions.

Would you like to help?This fall, S.O.A.R. is offering a free 18-week peer counselling training for male and female adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse who have progressed sufficiently in their recovery that they feel able to assist others in healing. To register, phone or email no later than September 20th, 2011. Location and time will be provided at screening.

S.O.A.R. Art Auction

We will hold a charity fundraising art auction at the Designer Café in Kentville August 5th to September 1st. We had an opening on August 6th from 2 to 4 pm. The Designer Cafe graciously offered to donate 10% of their net sales from that day to S.O.A.R. The format of the auction will be a Silent Auction, with a “Buy Now” option for a predetermined extra tax-deductible (in Canada)donation to S.O.A.R. so that tourists and others who will not be around at the end of the auction can purchase items immediately.

Fundraising Art Auction at Designer Café in August

Opening event on August 6th

We are planning to hold a charity fundraising art auction at the Designer Café in Kentville in August. We are seeking local artists who are willing to support our work by donating artwork for this event. We are open to many forms of media being displayed. We thank the Designer Café for donating the space to hold the silent auction during August!

We understand that artists are often called upon to give generously of their work and time, and we do not want to put undue burden on the arts community. Artists may specify on the submission form if they need to recover expenses for materials used to create the piece. S.O.A.R. (with your permission) will promote your work on our web site with a photo, background information on the artist, and a link to the artist’s web site (if available).

The works will be displayed from August 5th to September 1st. The format of the auction will be a Silent Auction, witha “Buy Now” option for a predetermined price so that tourists and others who will not be around at the end ofthe auction can purchase items immediately.

All proceeds will be donated to S.O.A.R. with the exception of credit card charges for purchasers who use this form of payment, payment of production expenses to artists, and minor organizational expenses.
