What training is provided for S.O.A.R. Peer Supporters?

Our Peer Supporters are survivors who undergo rigorous screening and are required to successfully complete a 16-session training program led by S.O.A.R. trainers.

The training emphasizes supportive listening skills in areas of:

  • communication skills
  • types and effects of abuse
  • confidentiality
  • crisis management
  • responding to flashbacks
  • post-traumatic stress

Online learning
  • Upon acceptance into our Peer Support training program, participants become a member of S.O.A.R., and upon successful completion of training they will become a S.O.A.R. certified peer supporter.
  • As a member and a peer supporter we offer ongoing support, and occasional education and training opportunities,
  • Additional Training offered may include Group Facilitation and Train the Trainer which may result in peer supporter members taking a leadership role in group and a possibility to assist in the delivery of peer supporter training.
