For those of you who were not able to take the MHFA training that we held on July 8, 9, please be advised that S.O.A.R. will host another training on August 16, 18 and 23 (Tuesday, Thursday and Tuesday evenings) so that people who are working during the day are able to take this course. We feel that it is so important that we would like as many people as possible to have this opportunity. If there is something that we can do to make it easier for you to attend, please give me a call.
The course is recommended for anyone who is working as a front line worker or volunteer. It is a 12-hour, certificate course created by the Mental Health Commission of Canada. This course is important for the content as well as the hints we all can use when dealing with someone who has a mental illness and is also trying to deal with their childhood sexual abuse. As peer counselors we need to make sure we are well trained and take advantage of training that is offered free of charge to SOAR members and partner organizations. There is a $35 charge to the general public.
The training will be at the Open Arms building at 32 Cornwallis Street in Kentville. It will start each evening at 5:00 pm and finish at 9:00 pm. Supper is provided and there will be snacks and refreshments offered during the evening. Please mark off August 16, 18 and 23 for a 5:00 pm start and get in touch with *protected email* to register.
